Food_Security_Food_Waste-01The summer sun scorched our farmers in their toil

Long labour lingering as drops of sweat soaked the soil

Alas the dividends of hard harvest in your bowl and plate

Why waste? Some crops take months and yearning years to grow

And patiently they wait to reap the seeds they sow

Yet you groan for every grain of wheat and meat

Quantity way beyond what only you can even eat Arise let’s build food banks across Africa

Fighting hunger from Gambia to Ghana

Each morning as you rise from your bed

Be kind to heartily share your daily bread Same summer sun still scorches destitute in their search

Hunger pangs care-less if food is high in protein or starch

While you wallow in greed and gluttony starvation is their fate

Again, I ask, why waste?
