The first thing you need to know is that fasting is beyond ‘not eating’- it’s more about the reason you’re not eating.

As simple as the above statement is, it makes all the difference. It decides if your fast will be fruitful or a mere exercise of your body. It decides if you will fast successfully in the midst of your busy schedule.
Fasting is subjecting the body and its desires by the help of the indwelling Holy Spirit to achieve a more focused period of cordial interaction (fellowship) with Jesus.
It’s a time where you give special devotion to prayer and the study of the word than you’ll do normally.

Click To TweetFirst, let us take the not eating, not giving to entertainment out of the way first and ask critically, “how would you have spent your day at work if Jesus had asked you for a deeper and intimate communion with Him while you still carried out your official duty optimally?” More like if He asked to hang out with you all day at work at every opportunity you get?
That is the answer you should seek right there. The key to a successful fasting is the answer to the above question.
I bet you won’t watch a movie series and just gist away with your colleagues. You will probably skip your break time to have more time to study the bible and pray. Am I right?
The days I have to fast at work, I will start right from the house before leaving for work, wake up early to read and study the bible. Then while at work, I will be extra quiet, keep more to myself, be on earphones listening to edifying music, messages or an audio bible. I will use my break time to find a quiet place to pray. And if I’m not driving, you will see me reading a book to and fro work.

Having said the above, here are few tips for fasting effectively;
- Condition your mind/mood via music
- Maximize every free opportunity (including your break) to pray and study
- Use audio messages, audio bible, songs and prayer by leverage on hands-free while working
- And yes, please use some mint, drink water, or just something to maintain a fresh breath.
I hope this post was helpful. Kindly let us know in a comment what works for you, and the greatest challenge you face while fasting at work also.

please use some mint…..lol. indeed helpful
Amazing stuff… Very helpful
Tolu, use some mints!!! Does that not mean you are breaking your fast already!
DaDon, remember that the focus of a fast is not in the ‘not eating’, but in spending time with God. The reason you are taking the mint is not to substitute food, but basically keep a fresh breath. It can be abused though, but with the purpose in mind, you are not breaking your fast.
That’s right.
This is great work sir
Even though I don’t go to work yet I really get busy doing house chores.
This is really great
God bless you
Let’s also state that we can fast from social media, entertainment, movies, gists, & every other thing that brings pleasure to the senses.
Fasting is about making deliberate actions towards being in sync (like a radio frequency) with the Holy Spirit.
