Memoirs Of Unsettled Adnan: Reaching Love Limit

Personally, I think I’ve reached my limit on the issue of ‘love’.

In order to make this post; the first post in my memoir memorable 😉 , I started writing about the characteristics of love according to 1 Corinthians 13. Just at the first one “love is patient“, I broke down. I don’t know why but I guess in the course of writing, I’ll figure out why.

This post is for all of us who think we have reached our limit; a motivation and advice. This limit could be about anything. Probably in our romantic relationships or relationships with our parents or friends, or our studies, (Whatever area I didn’t mention here, please write about it in the comment section).

Personally, I think I’ve reached my limit on the issue of ‘love’. When I was younger, I used to daydream about the perfect relationship. I dreamt about playing by the beach, kissing under the tree, what the proposal will be like, our fights and how we would make up because we really loved each other… I was just in love with the idea of being in love. Daydreaming about love was my favourite pastime. I was ready to give my heart to someone who would love me like I was the only person in the world.

My first relationship was a disaster. I just blamed it on the excuse that we were both young but every single one after that ended up in the drain like the first and I think the issue was patience. Our present generation has very low tolerance for ‘rubbish’. I’ll talk on the issue of patience in a later post. After my last relationship and heartbreak, I just locked up. I just felt like my fantasies about love would never see the light of day.

One day, I was discussing this issue with Tolu and I was telling him I was done with love and he told me something funny. He said ‘Love broke your heart; it will take love and God of course to heal it’.

Honestly, it didn’t make any sense to me at all at the time (covers face). He said some other things like ‘Open up to God and tell him how you really feel’. That really really really works. Talk to God like you would talk to your best friend ignoring the fact that you may not get an immediate response or a physical hug or words of encouragement but try it. It helps.

Another area is in my relationship with my parents. Recently, I had a very heated argument with one of my parents and at the end of the day I felt really bad. There is no perfect parent on this earth. Although this parent of mine said some pretty hurtful things to me, I had to understand why the Bible said ‘Honour you father and your mother’. He knew we were going to have annoying parents that will push us to the extreme, like the RUN student that was pushed to killing his father. Yet, He said ‘honour your father and mother’. God didn’t add that part of the Bible for fun. (Funny how everything boils down to patience)

In closing, if you think you’ve reached your limit, talk to God. If you don’t know how to, pretend you’re talking to yourself and ask Him to listen. Speak genuinely. You may need to let go and move on but still, talk to God. If you don’t get results, then….
