Even if I don’t know anything about the male species, I know this is something most of them dread. The Friend zone. I didn’t know whether to be happy about it or to get angry when it happened to me. I got friend-zoned. And I’m female. We do the friend-zoning, don’t we? Well, I got friend-zoned. Me. A girl. By a guy, strange.
There’s this guy I met and over the past few months, we’ve grown fond of each other. Since I was just recovering from a bad break-up, I didn’t want to push things further than they were. But then one day, something happened and he said ‘That doesn’t change the way I feel about you’. Well, inquisitive me decided to poke further. I think it was at this point that feelings started to grow.
And then one day, we were talking and I got this speech: ‘I really like you and I’ve really grown fond of you but I think it’s best we remain the way we are. I don’t want to ask you out only for the relationship to fail blah blah‘. You get the gist. I didn’t know whether to laugh or to be upset. And then it got me thinking.
Everyone who goes into a relationship doesn’t have the faintest idea whether the relationship will work or not. They take a leap of faith and try to work things out. So is that a good excuse? But then again, I tried looking on the bright side. I didn’t waste my time ‘chasing shadows’. He isn’t ready for a relationship and he told me that out-rightly. God knows a heartbreak is the last thing I need right now. I don’t even need it. So maybe being friend-zoned was a good thing. I think.
Here’s just a lesson to be learnt. If you want to go into a relationship with someone, you need to be ready, mentally especially. Not just because you think you feel something for the person. And being friend-zoned may not be a bad thing after all. Don’t be so short-sighted that you miss the greater blessing.

First, I have to do this *drum_roll* *blink_twice* *chuckle* *burst_into_laughter* buhahahahahahahahahaha. Shaaaaazam #gbam. *black_american accent* now atleast one of them knows how it feeeeels. Lol.
Secondly, on a more serious note (yeah, the previous was serious… This is just more serious)… Though relationship is indeed a leap of faith thing, in the sense that you can’t know everything that would come your way still I suggest we all (like the lady has said) make sure we understand what a relationship is the moment we begin to develop feelings. Developing feeling is part one… Getting ready for the decisions you should intentional make is another. By decisions, I mean the flirting, toasting, frying and everything else. Please iyo. Please get ready!
I’ve been friend-zoned before. Five years ago. In a few months time, I’m marrying the same guy! The best thing is not to sweat it. Build the friendship with no strings attached-that’s the most important thing. If it finally eventually turns into something more, it makes for a stronger relationship. If it doesn’t , you get a great friendship out of it. I think it’s awesome that the writer did not spend her time pining over this ‘friend’.Feelings come and go, what makes a great relationship is the commitment of both parties towards making it work.
I too have been friend-zoned by someone (a guy) whom I tot was just the one for me….He had the looks, the “macho”, the humor, even the brains…tho just a lil bit of that as i come to know:))
Point is, I really got too fond of this guy and that’s a pitfall when the guy just sees u as an acquaintance not even a friend. Well, am glad that I am over that with strong prayers:) and now, I have one who is ready to give his life for me……..xoxo
This is a good read!
Lol.. Friend zoning is important 🙂 Or else the rate of dating would be too high. I have friend zoned a few sha. We bless the Lord
Victory, we bless the Lord!!!
Friend-Zone is truly a blessing!!!!
I’m a guy and i don’t mind been friendzoned because i think ot in a way makes closer as a confidant
friend zone is a strange place ,am not sure whether to classify it as good or bad, i think it depends on the situation …..and a lot of people see it differently , as for me i would go with what VICTORY said ,but then let us be very careful, messing up with people’s feeling can be very DISASTROUS and have very serious consequences ..for both parties….
I think we should put our feelings under CONTROL and try not to let it control us,plus there is always a God we can ask when in doubt
its a blessing at least you don’t get your feelings all mixed up ure sure of what’s in it for you and u can either decide to enjoy a great friendship or walk.
