How do you handle sexual temptations?
Have you found yourself repeatedly battling a seemingly insurmountable sexual urge? You’re so embarrassed you cannot even talk to anyone about it? Here is what to do;
1. Trust God
We serve the God who “…delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked” 2 Peter 2:7.
In Sodom and Gomorrah where he lived, lewdness was the order of the day. Even homosexuals were happy and proud there. But God delivered Lot. He will deliver you. Trust Him. Jude says: “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy” – Jude verse 24. That’s your God.
2. Deal with the source permanently
How did God deliver Lot? He gave him the strength to overcome the temptation? No! God brought Lot out of Sodom and Gomorrah, and destroyed the place. What many of us are doing today is insisting on staying at Sodom in hope that God will give us the grace to overcome. But the instructions in this regard are consistent: “Flee fornication” 2 Cor 6:18, “Flee also youthful lusts:” 2 Timothy 2:22.
This might involve separating yourself from people who consistently lead you into sin. Don’t keep that phone number and lie to yourself that you will never call him/her over to your house again. Lose the number. Have you seen that you cannot trust yourself to use that social media app without visiting the wrong pages? You might be better off doing away with it altogether…at least for a while.
While it is good news that you were tempted and overcame, it is smart to not even put yourself in a position to be tempted in the first place. Don’t manage what must be destroyed.
