As we grow older, there’ll be a desire to understand things about yourself, your path, especially with God communicating an assignment to you. You’ll need to move toward that direction and many times, you expect that your parents will pat your back and give you unwavering support. However, you’ll get shocked when you realise they think you are making a joke of your life by taking those steps and more so the devastation conflict with your parents can cause.
Whether we choose to admit or not, not having parental support for what you want to do is hurtful and is really hard when you have not gained solid independence. In fact, it can be discouraging and may lead to you second-guessing yourself. This is not because you are a person of weak character; it just means you are a normal youth who just wants to be responsible for his (or her) life.

I know that they love you:
I know it doesn’t seem like it, especially now you are in conflict with your parents but hear it- they love you- even though their actions don’t obviously signal so. Look at things from their angle; they are probably not as exposed as you are, their generation was quite different from yours. It’s not really easy for them to accept your non-traditional path. In fact, it’s a sign of care that they are so concerned. They don’t want you to ‘miss it’. Forgive their actions.

When stepping out on your own, you may make mistakes, you may take detours, don’t feel discouraged. Don’t be under pressure to prove your parents wrong.
