Books Every Young Christian Should Read: A Personal Opinion

If you’re a young Christian (a Christian who just got born again and is looking for ways to grow in the faith), reading books is helpful and useful for you. Apart from praying, reading/studying is an important activity for every believer.

Still, I know that finding the right books to read as a young Christian can be quite daunting. This is why I have taken the time to compile this list for you. But know this, the Holy Spirit is the perfect teacher. As you read, be mindful of His leadings and nudges; He might urge you to pay attention or ignore certain portions of the books you read. Just be open to His leadings.

For those who might not know who the Holy Spirit is, do not despair; This list was compiled to serve you too. Start by reading it according to how it is listed and I promise that when you are done, you will see the difference in the way you think as a Christian.

Please note that I suggested these books because they were helpful to me when I started as a young Christian. In the same way, I am positive that they would help you too.

In my opinion, here are 5 books every young Christian should read:

1. The Bible

As Christians, the Bible is a compulsory read for us. It is God-inspired (1 Timothy 3:16) and written by men. Did you know that the Old Testament (Genesis – Malachi) was first written in Hebrew, Aramaic? Also, the New Testament (Matthew-Revelation) was first written in Greek and Aramaic. Cool facts, right?!

Every Christian needs the Bible to survive; yes you read right – survive. The Bible helps us grow as believers. A Christian who doesn’t read his or her Bible is like a tree that is planted but not watered. Such a tree withers.

You can read the Bible in hard-copy or soft copy. There are also various Bible reading apps to choose from on Play store or IOS app store, which makes it readily available to anyone with a smartphone.

In addition, there are various Bible reading plans for better understanding of the Bible. These plans break down the Bible into little segments that you can read daily. The Youversion Bible app has a huge database of these plans. Not only this, it has different bible versions to get you started. The best part is it is free.

There is also the Triumph30 devotional app, it contains several devotionals on specific aspects of scriptures as well as a daily Bible reading plan.

2. “Now That You Are Born Again” by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

This book is centered around the Holy Spirit and what being a new creation is all about. In this light, it helps you understand the fundamental truths of the Christian life.

In addition, it shows one how to live the life in Christ Jesus. The book is about 62 pages and so should not take a long time to read.

3. “Grace: The Power Of The Gospel” by Andrew Wommack

“Grace, The Power Of The Gospel” breaks down the power of the gospel and makes you understand the grace we have as new converts. It plunges you into the depths of God’s grace and creates an understanding within you.

Are you having difficulty understanding the gospel? Then you should read this book. I find it helpful because it debunked wrong mentalities I had concerning the power of the gospel.

4. “Good Morning, Holy Spirit” by Benny Hinn

This book teaches you about the Holy Spirit. It helped me understand the person of the Holy Spirit and how close He is to every believer.

I also believe it is a book filled with solid truths about the Holy Spirit and how to be spirit-filled. You should read it.

5. “How To Pray Effectively: Understanding The Rules Of Prayer For Different Situations And How To Apply Them For Your Desired Outcome” by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Praying the right way is a struggle for many young christians. In this book, one can find a thorough explanation of the different types of prayer and how to incubate a healthy praying life. Also, this book shared vital truths and principles of effective prayer.

Therefore, it is safe to say that one can expect a revolution in one’s prayer life after reading this book.
