Title: Effortless fruitfulness by confession.
Text: Matthew 4
“Mat 4:3-4 And when the tempter came to him… 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Mat 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Confession is not about speaking what you want to get or what you feel you need, confession is speaking that which is consistent with what God’s word says about you. From our anchor text for today, we see from the life of Jesus that Confession is necessary for combating temptation.
The devil most likely did not appear physically to Jesus, the entire temptation in Matt 4 happened in His mind, just the same way normal human beings are tempted. In the face of these temptations, Jesus spoke out; He didn’t reply in his mind. He spoke out in words consistent to the will of God for His life.
“Mar 8:31-33
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. 33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.”
Jesus never entertained any thought contrary to the purpose of God for his life, even when it came from his disciple, he recognized that it was from the devil and rebuked it instantly.
“Pro 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
Be careful what you hear, be careful what you watch, guard your heart. Speak about yourself what God has spoken concerning you.
“James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
Don’t be gentle with negative thoughts, Don’t allow them thrive in your heart. Anything that your mouth doesn’t rebuke is perceived by your mind as permissible.
