Choosing the Right Church

Title: Choosing the Right Church.

Text: Philemon 1:6.

“That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.”

As a Christian, every time you fellowship with other believers it must be effectual, causing you to experience progress and joy in the faith, which is why it would be ultimately wrong to choose a church for sentimental purposes.

The bible is clear on what to look out for when choosing a place of worship.

1) Proper Doctrine:

1 Tim 4:16

“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt

both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”

“THE” doctrine, a definite article meaning a specific doctrine not any doctrine. It is not enough to hear people call the name of Jesus, you must ask yourself “what about the name of Jesus is been said?” All through the epistles, the apostles consistently warned against false doctrine (Eph 4:14, Heb 13:9, 2 Pet 3:19, Romans 16:17), hence we know that God is particular about what a Christian hears. A Christian must grow in the knowledge of all that Christ has done.

Rom 10:17

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The Christian Faith is a result of the Word of God (gospel) being heard.

Hence your information of Christ matters a lot, what you hear about the gopel is important. You

must know who you are because of what Christ has done.

2) Strength:

Luk 22:31-32

“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”

Fellowship should always build strength.

Gal 6:1

“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted”

A spiritual person can restore a brother. The strong are to strengthen the weak, hence, in fellowship you can draw strength from people around to encourage you in your walk with God. There must be platforms in place to strengthen you spiritually.

3) Ministry:

2Tim 2:2

“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”

Every Christian has a personal ministry. You must attend a church where you are equipped for ministry, equipped to have a sense of responsibility for the gospel.

Eph 2:10

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Your Church must constantly remind you of the ministry you have in Christ Jesus.” Don’t be sentimental about your choice of a place to fellowship, ensure you worship where you are thoroughly furnished in Sound Doctrine, in Strength and in Ministry.

DO THIS:

Make it your ambition to tell someone about Christ every day.

PRAYER POINT

  •  Father I thank you for the life I have in Christ Jesus. I truly appreciate all you have done for me in Christ.
  • Pray concerning the upcoming Manifest Bible Course in Abuja and Port Harcourt, that the Word of God transforms the lives of all the hearers.
