Christian Catchphrases are Never Enough

My friend’s reply ‘it’s well…’ suddenly made me feel a lot worse than I had felt when I called to get some comfort for the disappointment and hurt burning in my chest.

Somehow I felt like those words (it’s well…’) were not enough to fix my hurt but what was I really expecting…(I don’t even know) obviously, distance has even made it impossible to get any physical help. I hung up more upset first at ‘it’s well’ then at myself for getting angry. (…confusing bah) yea

Let me take you on a journey of what it was like in my headspace.

So I was at stress level 100 💯 and I was freaking out at all the things I could not control, then I picked up my phone to rant thinking ‘just maybe my friend will help me see differently and provide solution’ so now you can probably imagine my frustration after ranting for like 5 min on my airtime ooo then I hear ‘it’s well, all things work together for good’

Aha…😠😠😠

Then I had to sit with both my aching heart ♥ and my reply (‘it’s well, all things work together for good’) honestly I did not want to hear these words but;

Were they true – YES

Where they relevant to me at the time – YES

Would my friend have wanted to do more if time and chance allowed – YES

Looking at it now in hindsight did it all work out in my favour – OH YES

I agree that many times we use ‘Christian catchphrases‘ to sweep real problems under the carpet, avoiding to really address the main problem. Maybe out of fear, ignorance on how to respond or just a general lack of responsibility to issues we avoid the bone of contention and hide behind nice cliche phrases.

Words don’t fix problems, as much as you can in your capacity provide solutions by ‘shining light’ in people’s dark area.

When someone comes to you with what they are dealing with, you necessary may not have the capacity to give something (cash, food, clothes etc) but you can refer him/her to someone who can help, just tell the person about how you dealt with a similar situation or periodically check up. (I like this one in particular😉)

On the other hand guys, ‘Christian Catchphrase’ could be your go-to for hope in hard times. ‘It is well’, ‘All things work together for your good’ and the likes might be all you need to hear in that situation. As a form of encouragement or reminder.

When these Christian catchphrases are said as faith declarations, a prayer, a mindful statement, oftentimes, you can discern all these, and they make a lot of sense to you. They speak to you. You just imagine after randing about your ordeal to a friend, she pulls you closer, hugs you and said: “All will be well”. That will minister to you.

Let me paint it this way, so God wants to show Abraham what his future will be like and He (God)  says to him ‘look up, count the stars‘. And Abraham got the message.

In the same way, ‘Christian Catchphrase’ most times are God’s attention call for us to get the full gist. So instead of throwing it all out; it is well and the likes, listen again, hang on the Hope it gives.

…and oh yes ‘it is well’!
