Faint Hearts Made Strong: Dealing with COVID-19

The world ravaged by the present deadliest disease of our time: COVID-19. Countries are placing travel bans, borders are being shut down and persons, quarantined. Lots of lives have been lost to the disease and many are yet to recover- worse still, many are wary of contracting the disease. Fear seems to be the natural response to this matter of life and death. Creative contents are fast churning  out to reduce tension, put ssmile on our faces and give us hope. Prayers are being rendered and some persons must be wondering: where is God in all of these? I bring you some of my thoughts, which, hopefully, will help write a silver streak in our dark skies.

– It will pass:

COVID-19 is not the first pandemic to hit the world. There’s been the Black Death, the Ebola Crisis, the Bubonic Plague, HIV, the Justinian Flu amongst others. All these were border-crossing diseases hence their label: pandemic. They have come and gone. If not gone, a solution has been found for them. They’ve joined the class of general diseases. So will COVID-19

– Jesus died for all sicknesses:

In times like this, it’s easy to mock (or question) God’s power. However,  the truth remains that Jesus‘ power can heal any kind of sickness and disease (both known and yet to be discovered). Our job is to believe.  Through the power of Christ, John G. Lake healed victims of the Bubonic Plgue. The germs came in contact with him and died! Our faith should not waver. We will take precautions, but we must retain in our consciousness, the knowledge that Jesus’ healing power is for all sicknesses.

– God still heals:

COVID-19 is definitely not too big for God. It still falls into the category of sicknesses under Mark 16:17. By the power of Christ, it is cursed! People affected are visited by the power of God this very minute and are healed in Jesus name.

Medical intervention is via God’s power:

I strongly believe that medicine is an intervention from God. He knows that some people will not buy into the idea of supernatural healing- so He provides wisdom and knowledge for the discovery of antidotes to diseases. A lot of people have died because of this disease. It has to stop. Wherever we find ourselves, we join hands (pun intended) together to pray for medical scientists. They find a solution for this disease speedily.

– Small groups and online meetings are okay

Quarantines and other measure are being implemented to curb the spread of the disease. Church gatherings are affected, which is understandable. However, we can still gather in small groups and fellowship together. Thankfully, the church is not the building- the body of Christ is. I believe church leaders, especially in affected countries will take steps to ensure that fellowships continue. COVID -19 cannot defy Hebrews 10:25. With the medium of house fellowships, virtual meetings, online prayers etc, fellowship will continue.

On a final note, we must strive to remain who we are in the midst of all these. We do not become unkind and bitter. We must remain hopeful and prayerful. As cliche as it may sound, God is in control.
