Is God Really Good? – Revealing The Other Actors

Like a typical court scene in a movie, I called God up to the stand. This was about six years ago. If you are truly good why would all these happen to me? I was in bad shape, my grades were horrible, and I was craving more pills to take me as far away from reality as possible.

You see, I have been there and done that. I have tried to judge the very being that gave me life.

When I see people get to the point where they question God’s goodness, all I can really feel is empathy. But with this article, I would be trying to give you other angles to help your perspective, in case you are at that point where you are desperately doubting God’s goodness. So without further hesitation, I would be introducing the other actors in this movie, for I only got the answer to my questions on God’s goodness when I evaluated other possible characters.

The Devil/Satan or whatever other name he goes by.

For many years the devil moved in shadows, like the Lord of the dark he really is, unnoticed in the whole plot, as men continue pointing fingers at God for everything that goes wrong.

God takes the blame for famine, natural disasters, diseases and other forms of evil. But in the Bible’s book of beginnings, we are told that God made a perfectly working system and proclaimed his creation as good. But the devil, called the serpent, for lack of understanding of his person, found his way into God’s perfect system.

He made the first men God created go against God’s command and thus the fall happened. With the fall came chaos and the introduction of imperfection into an originally perfect system. But God who is infinitely wise and merciful had seen far into the chaos and had brought about the most perfect solution. In the fullness of time, God became a man, to save man from the mess he got himself into by yielding to the devil’s wiles.

God also became a man to also reveal the things the devil had been doing and getting away with.

For example, when in the past God was blamed for sicknesses, the God-man healed every sick fellow he came across. I don’t castigate you for calling the goodness of God to question, but remember he is not the only one in the picture.

You and Other Humans

Depending on what ideologies you choose to uphold, you might hold a contrary view of the origin of man from the positions of the Bible. But regardless of what views you choose to uphold, you can’t deny that man as a species is capable of the most gruesome acts.

From the beginning of time, we have seen men take other men’s lives, create incurable diseases, start wars, use other men as slaves and conceive other despicable acts of evil.

Something is obviously wrong with the human race, even as you seek to call God to the court stand, something within you tells you how unworthy you are to be the judge. The only rational explanation for all the evil perpetrated by men is that man is fallen and the world is worse off for it.

But the bible tells us God saw all of that and decided to become like us. He became a man, he walked amongst men and as a proof of our propensity for evil, we killed the God-man. But his death was a part of his plan to save man from what he had become. An evil, callous species, doomed to perish and justifiably so.

So you might question God’s goodness, but never forget that he gave us humans this world to control and yes, we are doing a terrible job at keeping it safe.

So before you accuse God of inflicting you with a disease, consider that another human is polluting the atmosphere making it unsafe to life while another might have clinically developed that ailment.

How did this come together for me?

I was brought up in a proper Christian home, but I had yielded to the devil’s influence, when in my first year at school I started taking drugs, this impacted adversely on my health and academics. I hated my course and my school, so I had no desire to give my best.

I admit I was laid back and sort inappropriate pleasures to norm my senses from my actual reality. But God, at a time when I should have been expelled from school, reached out to me. I realized how much he loved me and how he has never been the source of the problem, but the solution.

Then it occurred to me the incongruity of trying to accuse the only being incapable of evil, of being evil. Man is fallen and in need of salvation, the devil is incapable of good and has the ability to influence men’s actions when they yield to him. But God in all of the time has remained good and has been about the solution to the chaos.

God is good all the Time and All the time God is good!!! Click To Tweet
