Is It Right To Listen To Music While Studying The Bible? #AskLifeGiva

As much as we might want to say that the answer to this question is pretty obvious, it is not a sin, and it’s not wrong to listen to music while studying the Bible, I think it comes down to the point of efficiency.

What is efficient for you as a person?

I have said in the video series (Practical Tips For Effective Bible Study) that we should see studying the bible like studying other school books because the principles that work for effective academic material (or any kind of materials at all) also works for studying the bible.

Having said that, I know people who can’t study without music playing. The choice of music varies from person to person. Someone may like something cool and soothing, like soft piano or classical music, another may prefer rap or heavy metal with the reason that they need something to keep them active and awake while studying.

I also know people who cannot study with music on, not even with someone playing it besides them, because they find it very distracting.

So, my advice to you will be pretty simple, does music help you study better or not? If it does, great, listen to music while you study the Bible, but if not, keep music for other activities.

It is not wrong, it is not a sin to listen to music while studying the bible. God does not see it as disrespect to Him or to His word when you listen to music while studying the bible.

Regardless of it not being wrong, it might not be effective or beneficial to you.

And I believe it’s worth mentioning that if you want to listen to music while studying the Bible, the least you should do is to ensure that it does not contradict what you’re studying 💁🏿‍♂, and I’m not only referring to non-gospel music, but there are also some seeming Christian songs whose lyrics are contradictory to what the Bible teaches.
