Staying Connected To God Throughout The Day

Staying connected to God is increasingly becoming difficult for people because of their schedules. True, you have work to do or exams to write. These are genuine reasons. However, they are not enough reasons to not be in tune with God. Having a relationship with God is very important. Life doesn’t get any less busy. There is always things to be done. Whether you are working or studying or somewhere in between, it does get any less busy.

If a random christian is asked if they had a relationship with God, they would very likely say yes. But is it really a relationship if the only times you talk to Him is when you pray before our meals, when you wake and at bedtime or when you get into trouble in the middle of your day? God is a provider and protector and deliverer. But beyond these, He longs for fellowship (koinonia) with us. He longs for us to be in sync with Him through the day.

Ever wondered why the bible says to pray without ceasing? Ever thought on that scripture? And what it truly means?

It was hard for me to grasp initially because I thought prayer only meant knelling down with arms lifted high and saying things to God. I didn’t know that prayer was possible outside of these things but it is. Prayer is conversation with God even in the quietness of our heart. Worship is also a form of prayer. Staying connected to God is how you pray without ceasing

Here’s a few tips that can get us started or steady our arms on this journey:

  • Have a structure for your devotion. Start by having an allotted time to God. This is very important because anything left to chance can go either way – good or bad. Have a set time to meet with the Lord which maybe in the morning or evening. Just as you have some minutes or hours set aside for eating or classes or meetings during the day, let there be a slot within your daily schedule of 24 hours that is dedicated to your devotion time with God. Routines can be really helpful on this journey.

  • Harness technology. I recently started setting alarms on my phone to meet with God in between my day. I realized that once I am done with my devotion in the morning, I can get so busy that I don’t even think of God through the day. These reminders can be three or four hours apart where you can take a few minutes to meditate, worship or pray to God. Since we are mostly always with our phones, we can also take advantage of audio bible or sermons or audio Christian books while driving or walking or working out. Technology can be of great help on this journey of staying connected with God.
Do not despise the gathering of believers. When the devil wants to attack a believer, he starts by isolating him. It is easier to attack a lone sheep than when it is within a flock. • Do not despise the gathering of saints. Take fellowship very seriously. When the devil wants to attack a believer, he starts by isolating him. It is easier to attack a lone sheep than when it is within a flock. Also, go for church services and when you do, be present. Also have people you are accountable to and those you are accountable for. Those who would call you when it is time for prayer meetings and check up on you when you miss services. The believer wasn’t meant to walk this journey alone. God intended for Him to walk.

As we walk with God, God sees the desires of your heart to build an intimate relationship with Him and when you draw closer to God, you can be rest assured that He will draw even nearer. It is very possible to have a consistent relationship with God. What happens when we are busy is that we are not intentional and then other things take up the space. The resounding message even through the tips is being intentional.

Staying connected to God requires being intentional and realising that above all other things, knowing God and making Him known is the purpose of a believer.
