The Irony: How to Die to Live!

I would want to open you up to something that I learnt early in my Christian walk and probably you have seen too. Have you noticed that Jesus came to turn the world upside right?! It’s really exciting to think about.

He practically came to change the status quo. He said if you want to lead then you have to be a servant, if you want to have then you have to give, then like I have written

Have you noticed that Jesus came to turn the world upside right?! It’s really exciting to think about. He practically came to change the status quo. He said if you want to lead then you have to be a servant. If you want to have then you have to give, then like I have written above. If you want to live you have to die!

We will be looking at this ironical lifestyle Christians have been called to live and we will start off with ‘How to Die to Live’! So, how do we do this?

Christ means everything to me in this life, and when I die I’ll have even more. – Philippians 1:21

If you really are serious about living the Christ-like life then you have to be ready to deny yourself of a lot of things that you really really want. Click To Tweet

When you answered an altar call and decided to begin to live the Christ-like life, two things happened. You gave up your life and you took the life of Christ. In doing this, you accepted Him as Lord, meaning you are ready to do as He instructs. I believe an issue with the way Christian live is that we allow Christ to be our Savior but we don’t allow Him to be our Lord.

So, how are we to die to live?

  1. Self-Denial:

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.Matt 16:25

There will be times you so want to have your way, you want to yell at an obnoxious bus conductor. Times you just want to gossip about the boss’ irritating habit. There will be times when you will want your gaze to linger on a certain lady’s body. Oh, there will be many times that you just want to do things that are against the life you have being called to live.

What you will be required to do is to deny yourself of these things. Even when they may provide momentary satisfaction for your body.

  1. Renew Your Mind.

Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” – Romans 12:2.

You have to consciously switch the things that you are exposed to so as to help you. Find Christian alternatives to those songs. Whatever genre of music it is you like, I am sure you will find an alternative.

Tedashii, Tobymac, Donnie McClurkin, Mandisa, Lauren Daigle are examples of Christian musicians you can look into. Lori wick, Karen Kingsbury, Francine Rivers, Frank Peretti, Ted Dekker are examples of great fiction authors.

Out of the abundance of the heart…” is where life pours forth, so it is key you guard it if you know that you really want to be involved in this dying business. (Kinda sounds creepy, yeah?)

Is dying to live going to be fun, not likely, but will it be worth it, I definitely know so.

As long as you choose to please God, you will find out that it is actually in dying that you truly find life!

…and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. 39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. – Matt 10:38-39
