Feed on God’s Word: 3 Reasons to Start Today

We are often advised to feed on God’s word but before addressing that, what is this word we are talking about? God’s word or the Bible (to be exact) comes from the Latin and Greek words meaning “book”.

This Bible is often referred to as the “Scriptures.” This word means “writings” and is sometimes used in the Bible for itself. For example, Paul advised Timothy that “all Scripture is God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

A few things to know about the Bible

It was not originally written in English. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew, and the New was written in Greek.

  • The Bible existed as scrolls. It wasn’t always a “book”, but for preservation, it was arranged into chapters, with punctuations and translations, to aid understanding. Hence, it became a book.
  • Although the Scripture is God-inspired not every word in the Bible was spoken by God nor represents His intentions towards man. The Bible contains different stories, statements by others including the devil. So to understand it, you need to pay attention to context.

That said, here are three reasons to feed on God’s word:

The Bible has been made available for us to help us understand who God is. It is His revelation of Himself to us. Click To Tweet

1. It is God inspired

The first reason why we should read it, is because God inspired it for our reading. The Creator of the universe has “written” a book—and He wants you to study it! This should make us interested in what He has to say to us, and what He would have us know. If God wanted us to have the Bible, and He inspired people to write it, then we should read it.

2. We know about God when we study His word

The Bible has been made available for us to help us understand who God is. It is His revelation of Himself to us. When we get born again, we come into relationship with Him, and this relationship can only thrive when we know who we’re dealing with.

By studying our Bible, we get to know who God is. We get to understand His person, perspective and disposition towards us and others, and how to relate to him. We grow in our understanding of God and our faith when we study our Bible.

God's word answers questions we could have about why, how, and for what we're created. By reading our Bible, we learn more about our personhood and purpose. Click To Tweet

3. We get to learn about ourselves

God’s word answers questions we could have about why, how, and for what we’re created. By reading our Bible, we learn more about our personhood and purpose. We are taught, rebuked, corrected and trained in righteousness when we feed on God’s word (2 Tim 3:16). We are kept from error.

In conclusion, the word of God is final authority, our standard and guidebook for life. It is so designed for that very purpose and we ought to feed on it. Have any comments? Please share below.
