Four Things To Know And Do When Moving On From A Painful Breakup

A break up is difficult and sometimes, the very thing you need to move forward in your life. However, moving on from a painful breakup can feel like wearing a crown with thorns. If you are going through such season, I understand and I send you lots of love. You can reach out if you want to talk about it.

For now, here are four things to know and do when moving on from a painful breakup.

1. God knows, and He sees you.

Two months before my last break up, God started waking me up every night to ask me important questions. He would ask me ‘Do you love me?’ (yes, of course, you know), after that, He would add “More than… (the guy’s name)?”. My response was always the same. The fellowship that followed after that was beautiful. It wasn’t until a while, that I realized that God was preparing my heart and strengthening me for the breakup season.

It was so encouraging to know that I had (and still have) a caring Father who prepares me for every season (except I don’t listen). He wasn’t surprised by my breakup.

He wasn’t caught off guard and didn’t leave me stranded. The same way He won’t leave you stranded. He is providential and you are perfectly safe in His hands. Rest in that.

2. This one shall pass.

Don’t idolize it, this one shall pass. Pain can be really hard; it can be a fog that affects your vision. Don’t let it define you or the choices you make. It’s just a phase and it will pass. My first point is enough assurance. Rest.

3. Reach out

I know it’s a really sensitive season and you just want to be on your own, but please have one or two people you trust well, to help you with it. As I stated earlier, things may seem foggy. That’s why you need a friend at this point. You need someone to help put things in proper perspective. You need fellowship now more than ever.

4. Be Thankful

yeah, I didn’t make a mistake. Be thankful. Whatsoever things are of good report, think on them. Someone once said if you can think, you can thank. Be thankful that you can’t be in a hopeless situation; God sees you and He’s not leaving you. Be thankful that you are not alone, that His strength is made perfect in your weakness. Be thankful that you are blessed beyond what this world can offer. Meditate on the right things and be thankful. It will help your heart.
