Did God really send Meningitis to Punish Nigerians?

In a recent press release of Governor of Zamfara, Governor Abdulaziz Yari, he said on Tuesday while speaking with journalists at the presidential Villa Abuja shortly after meeting with President Muhammdu Buhari that the the ongoing outbreak of Type C Cerebrospinal Meningitis is God’s way of showing his anger against Nigerians for turning their back on him.

“What we used to know as far as meningitis is concerned is the type A virus. The World Health Organisation, WHO, has carried out vaccinations against this type A virus not just in Zamfara, but many other states.

“However, because people refused to stop their nefarious activities, God now decided to send Type C virus, which has no vaccination.

“People have turned away from God and he has promised that ‘if you do anyhow, you see anyhow’ that is just the cause of this outbreak as far as I am concerned.

“There is no way fornication will be so rampant and God will not send a disease that cannot be cured,” the governor whose state is most affected said.

There has been many reactions to this ‘information’ from the governor from Nigerians prominent among them being the reaction from the Nigerian government through the Minister of State for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire who said,

“The federal government does not have views of that nature‎ and I am not sure the state government can really continue to make that statement.
“When things happen, yes you can begin to look this way and that way for the cause of it.

“But like I said nature played us an unfortunate stroke but that is not to say we committed sin or anything.

“It does happen that things occur out of the blues,’’ he said.

Will God send a disease to kill over 270 people already just to make a statement about fornication, what happens to other form of atrocities by Nigerian leaders like fraud, many Nigerian have asked. So, what exactly is the cause of Meningitis?

The Federal Ministry of Health, explained that for the first time, the meningitis epidemic is being caused by Neisseria Meningitides type C rather than the known Meningitides Type A.

As much as Meningitis isn’t a God sent punishment, yet we know that it is fostered by sin nature problem.

Now don’t get it wrong, it isn’t much of a sin problem in that it isn’t because someone commits adultery, lies, fraud or whatever category of sin that exist, but a nature problem. Every man born into this world is born with a nature that is naturally drawn to sin and ungodliness

We live in a world where the devil is the god, “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe” 2 Corinthians 4:4. Since man lives in this world ruled by the devil, which is the result of the fall of the first man, the world suffers from diseases and all sort of unpleasant things, however God has promised to keep those who have decided to stay on His side “The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul” Psalm 121:7.

If for any reason, a Christian falls a victim of any of these ailments, we can always fix our gaze on the word of God, and trust God’s power for our healing.

God will keep giving man the intellect and ideas to provide cures and vaccines as He is very much interested is us.

Governor Yari mentioned that Nigeria will get the highest percentage of the 5 million doses available now. He also mentioned that apart from WHO, other International bodies such as the Bill Gates foundation and UNICEF are also currently focusing on how to tackle the outbreak,” he said

I know that Nigeria will win this fight just as we did during the Ebola outbreak, we definitely know that God is not punishing us!
