God Wants To Heal You

If you have ever doubted that God wants to heal you, then this article was written specially for you.

In getting responses about the willingness of God to heal, I have heard all sort of answers, that range from candid, to downright whimsical. But a good place to start within ascertaining God’s desire to heal is to know the origin of sickness and diseases.

Where did the sicknesses and diseases come from?

The Bible tells us in the book of Genesis, that God created a perfect world, with perfectly working systems. He also created man, among the many things he created and proclaimed that all he had created was good (Genesis 1:1-31).

The honest question then arises, if God said all He had created was good, where did the sicknesses and diseases come from. The Bible in the same book of Genesis, tells us how God gave the man He created an instruction.

With the instruction, God also told the man the punishment for disobedience (Genesis 2:16-17). But as anyone can expect from a being given free will, man disobeyed God and fell (Genesis 3:1-24). So as a result of man’s disobedience, death came into existence and with it came all the ills now present in our world (Romans 5:17, 8: 20-23).

God is not the originator of sickness, disease or any of the disasters we have in our world, man's disobedience ushered in these things. Click To Tweet

I have met people who would readily admit that God did not create sicknesses and diseases, but they claim He sometimes inflicts them on people as punishment for wrongdoing. They sometimes point out examples like the portion of the Bible like (1 Samuel 23:14) that tells us God sent evil Spirits to Saul. We must understand that before Jesus came to reveal God’s nature to us, nobody really had a good understanding of God. It was because of this lack of understanding that people attributed terrible things to God, but God decided to take on flesh in the person of Jesus, to give us a true understanding of who he really is (John 1:1,14-18, Hebrews 1:3,1 Timothy 3:16).

So regardless of what we had earlier thought about God, we look to Jesus, to understand who God is and his character. At this point, it is also important to note that God has always been about the solution to the consequences of man’s disobedience and not the source of the problem. He introduced himself to the nation of Israel, as the God that heals and this was many years before Jesus came to give us a perfect understanding of God’s nature (Exodus 15:26).

So regardless of what we had earlier thought about God, we look to Jesus, to understand Him and His character. Click To Tweet

When we look to Jesus and examine the life He lived, we see that He inflicted nobody with diseases. Apostle James in his book, describes God’s nature, as lacking the ability to do evil or tempt anyone with evil and that He is the source of all good things (James 1:15-17), therefore, we can conclude that God does not make people sick.

16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. – James 1:16-17

To answer the question of  ‘Does God want to heal me and how willing is He to heal me?’ , we look to Jesus, because we have earlier established that he perfectly explains God to us. Jesus came to this world, primarily to die for our sins, as part of God’s plan to remedy the effects of man’s disobedience (Romans 4:25, 1 John 3:4-5, I Timothy 1:15).

Although Jesus’s major goal was to die for our sins, we realize that he healed almost every sick person He came in contact with ( Matthew 8:16, Matthew 12:15, Matthew 14:14, Luke 4:40, Mark 6:56). Apostle Peter when he preached the gospel at Cornelius’s house, described how Jesus’s ministry was characterized by healing miracles (Acts 10:38).

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. – Act 10:38

Jesus healed all sort of diseases, including diseases that had troubled people for years, He raised the dead to life and finally He conquered death for us, through His redemptive work, hallelujah!!!! (John 5:1-15, John 11: 32-45, John 3:15). This has always been the character of God, a willingness to heal, spurred by his love and compassion for man. He remains the same today and when He ascended to the right hand of God, He left us with his power and Spirit (Hebrews 13:8,  Acts 1:8).

Jesus said before His ascension that those who believe in him would heal the sick with his power (Mark 16:18, 1 Corinthians 12:9). The fact that God expects us to use His power to heal the sick, further proves His willingness to heal the sick, so we see His disciples after His ascension, exploit this power to heal many sick people in the name of Jesus (Acts 3: 1-16, Acts 5:15-16, Acts 8:7-8, Acts 9:33-35).

To you reading this, I tell you with all assurance that there is healing for you in the name of Jesus and if you only believe,

I speak healing to you in the name of Jesus.
