How Exactly Do We Live This Christian Life?

I remember how this question plagued me as a teenager, I mean I just got born again, here I was being more serious with my faith, I never missed a service in the church, I even prayed every day. That felt like progress to my teenage self-till I stumbled across a bible verse during my personal bible study and it changed my perspective on a lot of things.

I remember that day vividly, It was a calm morning. I didn’t have anything planned so I decided to study my bible. I opened it and I came across Colossians 3:12-17 “12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do,  whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Reading that scripture passage got me confused. when I got born again  I learnt that all I had to do was believe and confess with my heart that I believe in Jesus Christ and he died for me and God raised him from the dead. I confessed that he was lord of my life from that day and that I had eternal life.

However nobody told me that getting born again wasn’t the end, infact it was just the beginning and that was something my teenage mind couldn’t comprehend.

I mean how do I forgive someone who hurt me? How do I love someone even when they are undeserving of it? How do I live like Christ did? I had to be perfect to do that and I wasn’t.

This led to a series of “how do I questions” and after pondering on it for a while, I asked the holy spirit for guidance and he began to teach me. Slowly, I began to understand God’s love for me and how he loved me even when I didn’t care and love him in return. How he was always in my life but didn’t force me to acknowledge him, how he poured his love on us without any reservation.

This opened my eyes to more revelations, the more I understood God’s love for me, my love for him deepened and the more it deepened, the more time I spent in his presence. I spent more time studying my bible and feeding my spirit man and in no time I couldn’t recognize myself anymore.

The questions that once plagued me had answers, the things I found offensive didn’t offend me anymore. Loving my neighbor’s and everyone I came across wasn’t a chore for me anymore, indeed I began to live the Christian life unconsciously with the word of God as my guide.

Today I am a youth who is active in soul winning and whenever I preach the gospel to new converts. I let them know that being born again is the start of a journey and not the final bus stop. There is great need to rely on the Holy Spirit and the word of God for all the answers to your question.

When you do, you would see that the Christian life isn’t all that difficult so long as you don’t try to do it on your own because it would be impossible. Come to think of it, it is humanely impossible to love those who have hurt you. To forgive those who have betrayed you would be so hard. That’s why we need the guidance of the holy spirit and the nourishment that comes from the word of God.

The big question is how ready are you to adapt to this lifestyle and live the Christian life? Are you ready to spend more time learning his word and building your spirit man?

The word of God has made all provisions available, all you need do is to access it and download into your spirit.
