The new age is sordid on the issue of intimacy. It has succeeded in establishing corrupted beliefs, which are not rightly based. There are no exceptions to which sex is downright amoral when it is done outside matrimony (marriage between a man and a woman)
These are things to remember, especially today in our sex-crazed society, a society that seems to view any form of abstinence as socially undesirable and freakish. A cursory look at much of pop culture seems to suggest that if you aren’t having sex at least three times a week with at least two different partners, you are not ‘with it’. This is not the teaching of sane cause. While practicality does not determine right from wrong, if the Bible’s message on sex before marriage were obeyed, there would be far fewer sexually transmitted diseases, far fewer abortions, emotional traumas, far fewer unwed mothers and unwanted pregnancies, and far fewer children growing up without both parents in their lives.
Abstinence is God’s only policy when it comes to sex before marriage. Abstinence saves lives, protects babies, gives sexual relations the proper value, and most importantly, honors God. Relationally, much of our early understanding of sexuality is at fault, as it has been reduced to just saying “no” instead of developing a holistic view of human sexuality through a person’s entire lifespan and fully integrating it with God’s plan.

Promiscuity and Abstinence can be two sides of the same coin. Both can hint at an insufficient understanding of God’s intention for sex, His blessing of it in the context of marriage, and His creation of his people as sexual beings. So preaching only abstinence is not the answer but it would be better understood in the larger context of God’s plan for relationships and intimacy. Sex can be physically enjoyed to its fullest extent, emotionally satisfying, psychologically fulfilling and spiritually meaningfully.
If the act of sex is meant for marriage, it begs the question: what is the practical application for those who are not married? We are to remain celibate and to offer ourselves completely unto God for his service, something that’s very difficult when married. For those who follow God’s plan, he offers up his blessings. We see these blessings even from a purely secular context.
Abstinence prevents unwed pregnancies 100 percent of the time and will prevent sexually transmitted infections if all behaviors are reserved for marriage.
Studies have shown that individuals who remain abstinent before marriage have a better chance of remaining faithful in their marriage. When spouses are faithful within marriage, it allows the couple, and specifically the male, to build, save, protect, plan and prosper.
So abstinence before marriage and faithfulness within marriage has historically protected the individual and society. Sexual morality is the concern of individuals, families and society. It’s an existential apex. It’s a perfect realization of the human ideal. But if we were abstaining something besides human ideals, we have to be more intentional and devote ourselves to a more-deeper cause, which of course is a good look on every body. “a touch of black”, the New Cool.
