Lessons from David Hundeyin’s “Cornflakes For Jihad”

Few weeks ago, Nigerian journalist, writer and media personality, David Hundeyin, published an article titled “Cornflakes for Jihad: The Boko Haram Origin Story“. The article went viral instantly and was met with mixed reactions from the public. In fact, some people even proposed a boycott of the popular breakfast cereal referenced in the article.

My personal opinion of the article is that it is a thorough work of investigative journalism. Beyond this, below are some lessons you can draw from the article:

Religion is an Agenda

An agenda can be defined as an intention or motive of a particular person or group. The article revealed how certain men made use of the proceeds from their businesses to fund terrorism and Islamic radicalism globally. The end of this funding is the furtherance of Islamic ideologies and doctrines.

Big Brother Naija came to an end, after airing for several days. At the end of the show, it was obvious that brands and individuals had invested billions of Naira to push agendas of sexual immorality, indecency and drug abuse,… Click To Tweet

Going through the comment section of the article,  it was ironic to see that some of the comments still mentioned how churches were busy collecting tithes and offerings. These people actually read a full article about individuals sponsoring an agenda that involved loss of lives and their conclusion was to castigate the church?

At this juncture, I would like to digress from the article being analyzed, to talk about some other agendas being pushed that seem to elude everyone. Some weeks ago, Big Brother Naija came to an end, after airing for several days. At the end of the show, it was obvious that brands and individuals had invested billions of Naira to push agendas of sexual immorality, indecency and drug abuse, amongst other vices.

Everyone is aware that the LGBTQ community is not resting on its oars in pushing its agenda of gay social engineering. In the same way, we have to realize that Christianity is an agenda that must be pushed at all costs. Click To Tweet

Then more recently, DC comics announced that the new Superman would be bisexual. Also, the LGBTQ community is not resting on its oars in pushing its agenda of gay social engineering.

In the same way, we have to realize that Christianity is an agenda that must be pushed at all costs. Furthermore, the Christian message is the only one that offers life to a dying world. Hence, our agenda is to ensure that the whole world hears the message. And this leads me to my next point.

Agendas Cost Money

If you have read to this point, then you would  realize that agendas cost money. Therefore, it becomes irresponsible for a Christian to be against the prosperity of the church. Many people, including Christians, speak against the collection of tithes and offerings in the church. Why?

These people forget that in the early church believers sold all their possessions to ensure that the gospel’s message spread. Therefore, this is a call to awaken to the responsibility we have as believers. Similarly, we are to make sure all men hear the gospel, and invest themselves and resources in gospel related courses.
