My Top 4 Lessons From Dating God’s Way

I think I’m a hopeless romantic.

Yes, I’d most likely cringe while watching Chick Flicks 9 times out of 10, but I find the thought of settling down with “one’s true love” exciting. I want it for myself, to be one-half of those two chasing their ten thousand. Most importantly, I want it for others too because quite frankly, the world needs more God-centered relationships with enough light rays for our dark world.

My personal journey to finding Happily Ever After God’s way has been less than a walk in the park though. In the span of five years, I’ve met the straight-up-wrong guys, the good guys and the good-but-not-so-good-for-me guys. Each dating relationship, or situation-ship, has come with its set of unique lessons all formulated by the Teacher Himself, who has promised that as His child, no experience will ever go to waste with His Spirit interceding on our behalf (Romans 8:27-28).

Presenting my most important lessons learnt from dating God’s way:

  1. God is eager to help:

“”LORD, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham… May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’–let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac…. Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder.” (Genesis 24:12-15 NIV)

I love how God came through for Abraham’s servant (on Isaac’s behalf) in a major way, giving him all He had asked for in a woman before he even finished the request. If that doesn’t show love and eagerness, then what does, people?

With that said, is it possible that the reason why some of us – Christians even – don’t ask for help is because we doubt God’s willingness, and not necessarily His ability? Hopefully, this changes things.

  1. God and the devil are experts at setups

From Genesis to Revelations, the list of divine setups by our God is crazy long…

         Eve and Adam (Genesis 2:22)

Rebekah and Isaac through his servant (Gen 24:15)

          Ruth and Boaz (Ruth 2:5)

Abigail and Daniel (1 Samuel 25:32)

… Need I go on?

God has also set-up countless healings, job offers, rescue missions, your redemption among many other things. So we can remain confident that our marriages – a considerably small piece of cake compared to Salvation – won’t be left out from this ever-growing list.

Now, Satan is also an expert at set-ups too, so we must have our spiritual ears tuned to what God is saying per time to discern. You know the ones; Mr. or Miss Perfect who eerily show up at just the right time. Only for red flags to start showing, some of which we may choose to ignore.

So guys, please, if babe or bobo doesn’t match up with what God’s Word, think again. No matter how eery the circumstances of your meeting may have been or the “dreams” you may be having.

  1. God sees the hearts of men:

“When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord. But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16: 6-7 NIV)

I love Dake’s Notes on these particular verses: “Experienced and godly, Samuel still looks on outward appearances.” Funny truth, really, and it happens to the best of us.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve received a flat out “No” from God after meeting some guys. Even some strong tongue-talking, demon-yanking Christian brothers, who seemed to have everything going on. From promiscuity to concealed anger issues, the things I couldn’t see, because I was dazed by the external, would then come to light, leaving me awed every single time.

The truth is guys and girls out there are crazy! LOL!  But God sees all, and that’s why having Him in your corner when it comes to choosing Bae is key.

  1. It’s truly His story in the first place:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” (Romans 12:1 NIV)

Before Romans 12, Paul had finished describing the mystery of Grace. It had all been part of His plan from the very beginning, a plan still being worked out as He draws souls to Him through Christ.

As I purposefully date, I’m reminded of the fact that when we surrender our love lives to God, we are admitting the time-tested truth that He exists and is the author of all, including the institution of marriage (Gene 2:24).

As we purposefully date, we are giving Him access to use us in His grand plan and to demonstrate His original intentions for the world.

With all these read, Happy Purposeful Dating!

Thank you soooo much for reading, kindly leave a comment also.
