12 Ways To Make Yourself Happy

There are those days you are just not happy. Be it for something that happened or didn’t happen. Something someone did, said or didn’t do.

Regardless of the reason, there are some simple ways you can make yourself happy, both short term and prolonged happiness.

Here are ways to make yourself happy, things you can try to upswing a good vibe. Consider trying a few of these or all of them! I guarantee your day will get a little boost.

1. Spoil yourself with a meal

Food has a way of improving our mood, go to a really nice restaurant or if you can make a special dish and eat all of it. Just spoil yourself with a meal

Plantain or a sugar-based meal like cake does the magic for a lot of persons.

2. Take a walk

Nature, fresh air, blue skies etc have a tremendous input on our happiness. When next you feel gloomy just take a walk under the sky, pay attention to nature and her splendour.  You will notice the spike in your mood

3. Take your eyes off yourself

When we focus on ourselves too much you will always find something that is isn’t perfect or that is not working. Instead of consuming yourself with me, myself and I, take care of others, buy someone lunch, share someone’s joy, pay for someone’s grocery. Taking care of others spike up your mood.

4. Watch a good movie or Comedy Skits

Some kind of Movies or comedy skits have the power to affect our entire mood.

Catch up on that great series or pay a visit to that Instagram page and give yourself permission to enjoy a good laugh.

5. See something cute

Thank God for social media there are different cute pictures or videos of babies, people, animals etc seeing something cute makes us smile which in turn makes us happier.

6. Think positive

No matter how bad things may seem, there is always something to be grateful for. Choose to see the best in that situation, people, places and things.

Focus on the positives, list out what is going well. Allow yourself to celebrate the tiny victories.

7. Spend time with people you love

Happy people don’t spend large amounts of time alone. By spending time with people you like, you develop supportive relationships that help you in times of stress.

8. Take some alone time

Yes, I know I said you should also spend time with people, but if you easily get exhausted by social associations. Some alone time to just think, reflect and just unwind will improve your mood.

9. Exercise

This is nothing too serious, just some physical activity that will stimulate the release of feel-good hormones which aids your happiness.

10. Try Music

There was a day at the office I wasn’t happy, things weren’t just cooperating. I went on YouTube and searched for Happy Songs, and I found a great Mix that did the magic.

Music has a great power to change our mood, both ways definitely, but try upbeat, happy, loud music, and it might just do the trick.

11. Declutter

Tackle a small task each day for a month in an effort to declutter your life, take the time to clean up your space both physically and mentally. Trash things that you have no need of and keep clean what you need.

12. Play

Oftentimes, we grow up and forget to play.  Jumping, dancing, running or just plain goofiness would help ease your tension and make you feel happier.
