5 Lies You’ve Been Told About Women

If you have typical a Nigerian mother like mine that will resound what it means to be female or a wife, then aunties that will be giving unsolicited advice on how you should conduct yourself as a woman because you will belong to another family. Or telling the guys in the house what women should do to qualify them as wives or inlaws.  

Yo! Glue your eyes and take this ride with me on the lies they told you about us women.

1. She loves to cook

Really? Not all of us like to cook y’all, yes some (I can say a lot…) love to cook, they will whip up a six-course meal by the time you open your eyes and close it but some others really don’t like to cook… (before you roll your eyes) and it’s not because they don’t know how to. It’s just not a chore they like to do.

It’s just the same way some people like Mathematics and some love English, or should I say the way some guys like heavy duty/heavy lifting chores while some love mental ones.

Human beings vary widely in their interests; likes and dislikes. So why should you assume that all women love to cook just because they are expected to be caregivers in their homes?

So guys, should it be a deal breaker if she doesn’t love to cook? If your wife must be the one and only person who can make your food, then find someone who is willing to do that for you. But generally, anyone who loves to eat should learn to cook. I am sure that she doesn’t love to cook doesn’t mean she wouldn’t do it.

If your girl does not really like cooking, you can learn to do it, so that you help out, get a cook to do the cooking or just eat out.

2. All women Love kids and can take care of them;

People! This is not true at all, yes we have the capacity to carry children and bear them but some ladies are totally freaked out by kids. So while one lady would do a great job at babysitting another may not and there is absolutely nothing wrong with her plus this does not stop her from being a good mother if she wants to have her own children.

When your lady needs help with the children don’t think she is lazy, help out, hire a nanny just to ease out her struggle. It will be wise for you too to have conversations about childbearing and responsibility with ‘bae’ so that you don’t burden her with your expectations.  

3. The kitchen is her best place in the house;

Who lied to you? LISTEN!!!!!! My best place in my house is my room, I don’t mind doing my kitchen waka but most times I can’t wait to get back into my room and YES! I hate to spend lllllllllooooooonnnnnnnngggggggg hours in the kitchen regardless of what is happening there.

Awon brothers! Make up your mind on what you will eat, help yourself sometimes. Thank God for inventions like a Pressure cooker, Gas cooker, Refrigerator, Microwave. Food Processors etc they help reduce kitchen time and reduce the stress as well.

Times have really changed. The days where our mothers spend the whole weekend in the kitchen are long gone. We have people who cook soup and deliver it, we have cooks you can hire and many other alternatives.

Be WOKE and invest in kitchen appliances too.

4. The girl’s best colour is pink or light colours;

When I was younger my mother will buy almost all my clothes in pink or light colours but I prefer dark colours. So I will wear black from head to toe just because I felt like it (even now I still have to explain myself to Her).

There are tons of different colours and different shades of colours and it’s okay for her to love anyone better than the other. I won’t even be surprised that many ladies just adopted their favourite colour to be pink just because the world thinks she should like pink.

Unku! UnKu! if you want to get her a gift or you wanna surprise her somehow, please check with her to know her favourite colour. You don’t have to spill your surprise just find an innovative way of knowing what colour she would prefer.

And I think this spans beyond just colour to anything actually. There is a kind of gift/outing/adventure/romance people think every lady likes, which might not be true for your woman, so find out.

It is pretty unfair on ladies that they always know their man’s favourites, while these men aren’t returning the favour.

Find out, know what she likes, it will save you both a good fortune and plenty argument on who is more sensitive than the other.

5. If she has lots of friends and goes out a lot, she lacks home training or she is loose;  

I remember when it’s playtime especially as children, the boys are allowed to go out to play while the girls stay home. Some people, women inclusive get their energy from social interactions, so if she likes to be outdoors or hangs out with quite a number of people does not determine how well behaved your woman is.

If ‘Babe’ loves to spend time outdoors it’s okay, invite her to events you like to go for, try to enjoy the places she also enjoys. That way you get to spend time with her and perhaps pick up a new interest.

Guys, it’s okay if the lady is not ‘the Nigerian painted wife/woman’ it does not make her a bad person choose your struggle (what is most important to you) the rest will add up.
