The first subject of discussion I saw on a WhatsApp group this morning was about #SillhouetteChallenge. “It’s crazy”, “It’s pornographic!”, “I had to delete my app”, “Who starts all these challenges?” were some of the comments flying around.
My curiosity was piqued I felt a restraint in my soul because I really didn’t want to open myself up to images that would not be able to unsee. But I wanted to write about it from a Christian perspective so I decided to check it out.
I decided to take a sneak peek at a particular young lady musician who is crowned the queen of #SillhouetteChallenge. I mean, her’s was the belle of the ball right? What better way to get a feel of the ruckus? Listen don’t try it for your own sanity.
I checked out her video on Instagram; A woman is in front of the camera dressed, then the video changes from the normal mood to red and black silhouette at this point the woman is totally naked.
Nothing left to the imagination even though all I could see was her silhouette. Her gyrating movements were suggestive and I couldn’t help but ask “Is this “talent” of yours for the whole world to see?” But then, do I know if she cares at all about all that?
As I watched the display, mouth wide open, a strong desire to see other people’s videos rapidly followed and at that moment, I exited the Instagram page. I had seen enough! Being someone who has had a few squabbles with lust (like some other red-blooded believers) I could immediately see why the #SilhouetteChallenge was detrimental to the soul.
6 Reasons why the #SilhouetteChallenge is detrimental to the soul.
1. It titillates the mind (perhaps for men, the eyes).
You would just want to see more and since all you see is a shadow, the urge to see the actual thing is made stronger. I won’t be surprised if porn sites are experiencing huge traffic right now.

If you don’t have self-control, you might find yourself binge-watching thereby wasting your precious time and data.

Having watched these videos, you may find yourself fantasizing about how your future spouse will entertain you with such moves and she might not be about that life! Then, problems begin because you have set expectations based on viral videos.
4. It exploits our sexuality thereby destroying its dignity.
This is a major issue for me. The challenge decries the need to preserve one’s innocence as God intended. Our sexuality is a beautiful thing that should be treated with dignity not exploited on phone screens for the sake of gaining popularity.

Ladies sometimes complain that a lot of men view them only as sex objects (which is very wrong) yet we think it’s okay to flaunt our bodies before every Tom, Dick and Harry? You cannot offer milk to a cat and not expect it to lap it up. You cannot do #SillhouetteChallenge and not expect one or more men in one obscure place, use your video as porn material. Eeeeeeyyyyyyyy! God forbid!

To a considerable degree, we are in a time people perceive you and your capabilities by your digital footprint (Which includes what you post in your social handles). Is your #SilhouetteChallenge the kind of impression or enough representation of you?
We admit it or not, your social media interactions sell a perception of you, So is your SillhouetteChallenge the kind of impression or enough representation of you? Click To TweetI said all these to say that a believer in this generation has to take a stand for God in his/her sexuality because the devil is on the rampage. He’s subtle and cunny. He’s out to make mincemeat of lives. Don’t give him a foothold. He’s as slippery as an eel and I have found that one of his platforms is the media.

Thank for the instructions embedded in this article. I believe that more people, especially believers need to be informed of the dangers of some of these social media trends
The Lord bless you for the Godly and goodly insight.
Even as a lady, I hated the way I felt watching some of those clips. Honestly, apart from the fact that there is nothing fun about it, it is spiritually draining. Just the way sexual contents are, you can not unsee it.
I had to freeze my Instagram because it got harder controlling the number of silhouette videos that I saw there.
I will unfreeze it when nobody is putting hand on their shoulders.
Thank you for sharing this.
This is apt. Thank you for prompting us, sir. As believers, we need to wake up, coz the devil is not even sleeping at all. He isn’t taking a break. He is running helter-skelter looking for whom to devour. God help us.
