Three Things to Watch Out For This Half Of The Year

Happy new July,

We have 365 days this year 2017 and by this month of July we have officially crossed over into the half of the year! By the way, July is the best month of the year, you know right? Lol…

Like me, there are probably a couple of things that you have planned out for the year that you have not achieved yet, well these are three things you definitely need to watch out for this half of the year to prevent you sharing stories that touch at the end of the year.

Ready…set…read!

  1. SLEEP

Sleep is one of the best things that God created. I know I have a number of friends who would categorize sleep as a ‘hobby’, so sleep is definitely needed. Especially this half of the year where the weather is majorly cozy, it is so easy to fall for the temptation to sleep a little more. But before you fall for that temptation, remember “How long before you get out of bed? A nap here, a nap there, a day off here, a day off here, sit back, take it easy – do you know what comes next? Just this: You can look forward to a dirt-poor life, poverty your permanent house-guest!” Proverbs 6:10.

That sounds really harsh, yeah, but then it’s the truth. Isn’t it. Okay here is another one that is way nicer.

Love not sleep. lest thou come to poverty, open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.” Proverbs 20:13

Please don’t fall the desire to sleep longer at the expense of your plans and dreams. Please understand, rest is necessary, too much sleep is the issue.

Use an alarm if it works for you, ask a friend or sibling to call in on you, do whatever you have to do to ensure you do not overdo it.

  1. There Is Time.

“There’s an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on the earth” Ecclesiastes 3:1. So yeah, there is always time for something, but most time we use that phrase “there is still time” as an excuse for our procrastination tendencies. Remember the cliché from primary school that says “What you have to do, do quick”, allow me modify a little, what you have to do, do now.

Procrastination is simply putting off more important, a times urgent and less pleasurable tasks for a more pleasurable one.  Some of us have been able to put the ‘PRO’ in procrastination. ‘I’ll do it tomorrow”, “There is still time’, “how about I touch that later?’ are simple sentences that we use to hit the procrastination button.

Realize there is no time! Do what you have to do. Put up to do list, have schedules, set deadlines, and find someone to be accountable to.

A quick question “How bad do you want this?”

  1. Hoarding Love.

So this might seem a little tangential to what we have going on, but I can assure you that it is key. Look back to the over 180days you have spent this 2017, how many people have you expressed love to. I mean, how many people that can pay you back have being really loving too.

The girl down the road that is always in one gown every evening, the young boy that sells you corn with worn-out slippers, the cleaner woman at your workplace and all this other unseemingly not-so-important people in our lives, have you done something loving for them?

“If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal?” Matthew 5:46.

A warm ‘good morning’, a pair of shoes from your rack of plenty, clothes of your wardrobe for the girl, “Well done ma’ to the cleaner woman, an extra cash for the Okada guy and asking how the man that always seats outside your house is doing today are simple example of ways that we can live life loving others.

There are so many stingy people today, so many people that hoard love for unnecessary reasons. You can’t enjoy life if you don’t live life looking for who to love on.

“Love other people as well as you do yourself. You can’t go wrong when you love others. When you add up everything in the law code, the sum total is love” Romans 8:13

Are there other things you think should be added to this list, please do drop in the comment box. I will love to hear from you as much as our readers to would love to.

Enjoy!
