God When?! – The Crave for a Romantic Relationship

Ever seen beautiful marriages and you just ask God.. God when? When would it be my turn? When would this wo(man) you have prepared for me arrive? When would I post on Instagram and serve looks… to inspire others of course God when???

Some people even get creative with their prayers and ask in a different language.

Allah Yaushe?
Oluwa nigbawo??
Chukwu ole mgbe???
Dieu quand????

Perhaps all these creativity would get the angels’ attention and my woman/man would be delivered to me.

These we see on social media as bants but these questions are real questions a lot of singles ask especially Christian singles. You’re done with school and are working now or you are currently at that phase of your life where you, the church and society at large are sure that marriage is the next step. So you start to crave a romantic relationship or marriage and for some, it becomes an obsession. For others, they are convinced God has forgotten that they need a sexual partner in this world. Whatever the case, I have a few things to remind us of:

– It is perfectly normal to crave a relationship at this stage of life.

The ‘when’ varies for different people but it is perfectly normal that your body longs for another. God created us with sexual desires. In fact, when God saw Adam alone in the garden… He said: “It is not good for man to be alone” That means God knew the way He created man, there was a part of him that would need or desire a partner and then He made Eve to be Adam’s companion. Hence, desires for companionship is not of the devil. However, what you do with this desire is what becomes very important.

– Do not slip into obsessing over marriage.

If we are being honest, a lot of young Christians have slipped into this phase. No day goes by without them crying “God when?” in their conversations or even in their hearts. It dominates your conversations both online and offline… When you are not talking about it, you are thinking it. Ladies and gentlemen, that is how pressure begins. Minus the pressure from the society and sadly the church in some places, this is how self-inflicted pressure begins.

Do not obsess over marriage. Do not create a shoe so big that only God can fill and expect a human like you to do so. A lot of people have obsessed over marriage so much that when they get married and see it is their partners are not without flaws, they get disappointed. In summary, guard your heart against pressure whether from self or from others.

– Marriage shouldn’t define you.

You cannot afford to look to marriage to give your life a meaning. You cannot wait till you are married to start living. Do not define yourself by your marital status. The bible says we are complete in Christ Jesus. Moreover, there is no marriage in heaven. It ends here as every other thing that is of this world.

Also. there are things God would have you do in this your single season that you may not even be able to do when you are married. Hence, you cannot keep waiting to live, Live already! Many have died as single people. Imagine the tragedy if they spent all their days waiting for a partner before they live or fulfil God’s purpose in their hearts.

Trust God. This sounds so cliche but if we truly and honestly trust God, we would be at peace and content in whatever situation or season God has us in. Click To Tweet

– Trust God.

This sounds so cliche but if we truly and honestly trust God, we would be at peace and content in whatever situation or season God has us in. God has said: “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future…” Trust Him with your entire heart.

More than you think you care about marriage or anything at all, God cares way more. God loves you more than anyone else including yourself. So relax, God’s time is the best. You may have waited for so long. Seems everyone else in your age-bracket, church or even in your street is now married.

How to trust God while waiting;

Now you ask, “How can I trust God in this season?” Faith. Remind yourself of the times in the scripture and also testimonies in your life and in the lives of others. And be assured that God has not forgotten you. He cannot. “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! – Ish 49:15” – That’s from the bible. I didn’t say it 🙂

  • Busy yourself in this waiting season.

Instead of praying God when or worrying, spend time praying for your future spouse and children. Pray for your future home, your ministry as a family, for peace, for wisdom, for clarity. There is so much to pray for regarding them.

Focus on your schooling, job or whatever it is you have in front of you right now. Live in the now and give life your best shot even now as a single. Click To Tweet
  • Marriage is not the ultimate in life.

Finally, the part a lot of people don’t want to know – marriage is not the end-all of life. Marriage would never complete you or fill that void in your heart. We often forget that Jesus, our perfect example didn’t get married. Even Paul who single handed wrote almost half of the books in the new testament was not married! This only goes to show that you do not NEED to be married to fulfil God’s purpose for your life.

Is marriage beautiful? Absolutely. Is it the end-all of life? No 🙂 So do not live your life as a single obsessed with marriage or the thought of it. Trust God’s plan for your life.

Shalom!
