Have you ever broken up with someone you weren’t even dating?
A while ago, when I met a new guy and he looked like ‘potential’; maybe he ‘seemed’ to also like me- but didn’t like me enough to make a commitment. It was always obvious from start that we did not share the same core values. However, I kept on being nice. The kind of nice that stayed up late till 11pm gisting on the phone, opening my heart and having conversations- conversations I should only be having with someone I was committed to. The type of nice that even shared the temple that didn’t even belong to me- claiming ‘we were only friends’. Sooner than later, I realized that that situation wasn’t gonna sail; it was a situationship. I had to go through the process of disconnecting.
Imagine that, how do you break up with someone you were never in a relationship with?
The thing here was God always told me from the beginning. I always knew these sort of people were wrong for me- but I’d still go ahead and try to see. I was literally walking in disobedience and as you can expect, I always got hurt. I kept having relationship issues with guys I wasn’t in a relationship with. It was usually a very painful process to then, “end” what never began. My friend, Mile Akodu believes that we always see such scenarios coming.
God always tells you when you’re passing your boundaries. If you have been in any situationship and you are honest, you’d confirm it was always obvious where it was headed from the beginning.God always tells you when you're passing your boundaries. Although the Lord always comes through and helps wean you off break-up stages, there is a better way! Guard your heart. If you will not leave your bedroom open to strangers, then why will you allow just anyone in your heart?
Damage control is good, but guarding your heart, is far better. Make up your mind today, and decide:
“No more damage control for me. I am no longer offering my pearls to swine. I will keep all this affection for the person God has in mind for me. No matter how long it takes, I will wait and stop jumping from one situationship to the other.”Damage control is good, but guarding your heart, is far better. Click To Tweet
