Must I Preach the Gospel?

I’ve heard statements like “leave everybody to do their own”, or “I don’t put my religion in people’s faces” or “it doesn’t matter, we all serve the same God” and aside from the fact that this statement is incorrect, it shows a lack of understanding and poor knowledge of what gospel we preach is.

If you don’t believe you should preach the gospel, that simply means you don’t understand the gospel or you probably don’t believe it, because if you don’t believe unbelievers need Jesus to be saved, then you do not believe Jesus is the only way to God.

The gospel is that God sent Jesus to die the death we were to die because the wages of sin death but when we believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus we receive the promise of eternal life.

Pst Emmanuel Iren defines the gospel like this ‘The gospel is God’s fulfilled plan to accept the death of Jesus as the propitiation for the sins of mankind and He has ever since bestowed eternal life on all who believe.

Do you really believe those without Christ will perish?

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. John 3:16-18

Do you really believe the gospel is good news?

the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned.” Matt 4:16

You have shared information of way less value (because anything is small when compared to the news that determines the eternal destination of a soul), so if you don’t share this one you probably don’t believe it or see it for what it is!

Christianity is not just a “fan club”, it’s a serious matter. Will you leave someone to go to a place where they will perish? Think about the times there have been warnings on Twitter about a particular place being unsafe, or imagine that someone had the cure to a deadly disease that’s killing people, wouldn’t it be considered wickedness to keep such information to yourself? Yet you won’t share the most important information the world needs.

At the foundation of nonchalance about preaching the gospel is the failure to see the gospel for what it is- the good news that saves, that Jesus is the only way!

Note that this article doesn’t touch on the how to preach the gospel. Because I have seen many people criticize or condemn preaching the gospel all together because some people have done it the wrong way. If you have a good news, will you share it everyone? I think you will. If you find out that everyone’s life is at stake and you believe you have the solution, will you hide it to yourself? I don’t think so. That’s exactly the heart we approach preaching the gospel with.

The one thing I know death does is remind us that everyone would leave the earth one day, and I like that it gets people thinking and even if temporarily, it causes people to see differently and realize that this world isn’t all there is.

So after here, then what?

Are we doing what is of eternal relevance?
