Observations and Lessons from the #10YearChallenge Trend

For a few days now, everyone has been jumping on the #10yearchallenge trend, posting pictures of themselves from ten years ago, side by side their current pictures. The captions have been great, counting blessings and reminiscing on past…but here are some of the observations and lessons from the #10YearChallenge Trend.

– Better Cameras Make Better Pictures

You weren’t really ugly ten years ago, your camera was just very terrible. From most of the pictures, we can see how much work has gone into making better cameras. Plus don’t forget we have those filters that work like magic, now everyone looks good in pictures, okay sorry that is a generalization, almost everyone looks good in pictures.

So we are grateful to the tech experts of our world for the tireless efforts they put into product iteration, research and development.

Lesson – Pictures do lie, or better still, pictures don’t tell the complete truth, depending on camera quality. So, don’t judge people by their pictures.

– More Skin or Less Clothes

For almost all the posts I have seen there seems to be a significant influence of the evolving fashion trends on the contrasts between the present pictures and those from ten years prior.

For most of the ladies, the clothes in the current pictures reveal more skin than they did ten years ago. Well, it is obvious that people are now more okay with showing body parts than they were about a decade ago. I really wonder what we can expect ten years from now.

Lesson – Hmm, you, figure it out.

– Facial Hair Makes all the Difference

For most of the guys there is more facial hair in the current pictures, than there was in the previous pictures, I guess we have puberty and beard growth kits to thank for this. ‘All of us have join gang’.

Lesson – Grow a beard

– No One is Ugly or Money is Good

If you have struggled with whether it is good to have money or not, looking at some of those posts would answer your question. For many of those posts the difference between the current pictures and pictures from ten years back is the fact that people got richer.

Money has the power to change your appearance, at least with it you can get better clothes and improve your grooming. So it is actually not bad to make money, but just make sure money does not take a place in your heart that only God should actually occupy.

Lesson – I think guys and ladies looking to choose life partners should also take a cue from this, you won’t always look the same, and with little more money and time, that inner beauty will show. So look beyond the present physical looks to choose a partner.

– It is Better You than Someone Else

Some of the posts I have seen, had people post pictures of people they look up too as their future selves. It is good to want to be like someone you admire in the next ten years, but nothing beats being a better version of yourself in the end.

So from today, you can make a decision to do better, so that ten years from now if the challenge continues, you can proudly post the pictures of your growth process.

Thank you for reading, let us know what we missed out in the comment session.
