Just the other day, someone said to me, “not every prophecy one receives comes to pass…” I was going to start arguing along the line of God can’t lie. If He said it, then He’d do it.. then I realized something: God isn’t the only player here. Our response: actions and inaction too go a long way in determining whether the prophecy is fulfilled or not.
For a lot of people, during the crossover service or other end-of-the-year services, there was a lot of ‘receiving’ and ‘claiming’. But then looking back now, things don’t match up and then they wonder. Some people blame God, others blame the pastor or whoever the prophecy came from. Some others just don’t know what went wrong.
When it comes to prophecies and instructions for the future, there is a way believers are expected to respond. A certain stance is to be taken to ensure that there is a fulfilment of that which has been spoken ahead of us.
Let us take a look at Abraham in Genesis 12…
Verse 1: Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house To the land which I will show you; Verse 2: And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; Verse 3: And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you, all the families of the earth will be blessed.”…
For Abraham, Surely, there was a promise – a word that has gone ahead – that he would be made into a great nation and would become a blessing but a condition was attached. Now if Abraham hadn’t obeyed and there was no fulfilment of that which was spoken, it really would not be a case of God playing wayo or ojoro. Obedience is highly critical when it comes to receiving from God. Sometimes we don’t see it all or know it all, but when we obey in the face of that uncertainty, clarity comes.
Again let us take a look at a young man in the bible days, one of my favourite bible people… Timothy.
I Timothy 4:13: Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, and to teaching. 14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given you through the prophecy spoken over you at the laying on of the hands of the elders...
For this guy, a word had come yet Paul was telling him to ensure he doesn’t neglect that gift that had come by prophecy. For many people, gifts, promises and others came at the start of the year. Everything promising to be glorious but somehow, at the moment (end of the year), things don’t quite measure up. There is a high possibility that that is so due to some actions or inaction.
So for instance, assuming a word had come to you that in the year 2017, your prayer life would take a new turn but you never gave yourself to prayers neither did you deliberately set out time to pray extensively. There is really no way that prophecy would come to fruition. Or if God had told you that your hands would heal the sick this year but you never exactly walked in faith by laying hands on the sick people around you, then how would there be a manifestation of that which was spoken?
Let’s even assume its something such as, “You’d blow (have more money or material increase) this year”. But then you don’t go ahead to work in that regards to improving your business or whatever your hustle is, how then is increase to come?
There is always a response required when a promise, prophecy comes. It might be as simple as for you to believe the received word wholeheartedly or as complicated as moving like Abraham did to a completely unfamiliar zone.
What I know about God is this: God doesn't lie. God isn't into the ojoro life. If He says, He'd do something, then He'd do it. Share on XIn the end, if you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land. Another year is upon us again. Truly, words would go ahead of us. Whether God tells you directly or it comes from a man of God or friends or whoever. Be careful to ensure you walk in the consciousness of that promise. Obey the instructions if they come with any… and have faith also.
PS: I must say not every prophecy that comes from the pulpit is yours. So don’t go and be claiming or walking in what isn’t yours… Lol, this is what I mean: some prophecies are for the body of Christ as a whole, some are individual. That is why it is very critical that beyond your going to church and receiving. You have a personal relationship with God. You can always check in your Spirit and you wouldn’t be confused in that regards.
Happy new year guys!
Much love…
