I was in the bathroom that morning in my third or fourth year of Uni. I had gone to visit my friend who was staying off campus and yeah, we were both believers then, but I was still struggling with habits. Tunrayo my friend, had her act together or so I thought- but actually, she had a deeper understanding of the gospel than I did.
I had been in the bathroom for a while and I didn’t hear anything from the room. So I called out:
“Tunrayo, are you there?”
Silence rang in the empty room and for a split second, fear gripped my heart. Had rapture happened? Did I miss it? I came out of the bathroom in a hurry, and was super relieved to see my friend on the bed. After I told her why I was so afraid, she responded calmly.
“Babe, there is no way rapture will happen and you’d be left behind.”
It was a simple statement. But it stuck.
Are you a Christian? Does the word ‘rapture’, accompanied with visions of you going to hell, make your heart beat faster? Have you ever thought the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night, with this verse given to support the claim: “For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night” (1Thessalonians 5:2 NLT)?
I used to be afraid too. However, if you just move some two verses downwards, you’d find something encouraging: “But you are not in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.” (1 Thessalonians 5:4 NLT).

Rapture/the second coming of Jesus for a believer won't be a surprise. It won't shock you. It's your Daddy coming home. There's nothing to be afraid of. Nothing. Nothing at all. You have the assurance of His Spirit, living on your inside. As a seal. A guarantee that He is returning for you. What type of business man do you think God is? One that will leave a deposit and forfeit His goods?
I think not.
He is returning for you.
