SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Col 1:9-10 KJV

(9)  For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

(10)  That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

      Spiritual growth, just like physical growth is something that happens intentionally; I mean our parents fed us while we were younger because they wanted us to grow. So also, our spiritual growth must be something we walk towards intentionally and consciously.

Taking a look at this text, we see keywords that describe spiritual growth. Paul is praying that we will be filled with the knowledge of the will of God, that we get to a point where we understand God’s will for our lives.

So, God expects us to come to a point where we understand the will of God for our lives; So spiritual growth is actually God’s will, He wants to see us grow just as our earthly parents wanted to see us grow.

This morning’s message is actually a call to action; a call to act, a call to do specific things that will help us experience spiritual growth.

THINGS TO DO TO EXPERIENCE SPIRITUAL GROWTH.
    1. Take the word of God seriously:

We must pay serious attention when it comes to the subject of the word of God.

 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby – 1Pet 2:2 KJV

To be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding has almost everything to do with God’s word. We must take it very seriously. We know God through his word.

HOW DO I TAKE THE WORD OF GOD SERIOUSLY?

  • Get a bible.
  • Get a good bible teacher.
  • Get good bible translations and commentaries.

   2. Prayer

All through the New Testament, prayer is so emphasized that you would have to read your bibles with your eyes closed for you not to see it. Prayer is a must for the believer; Prayer is instrumental in spiritual growth. In-fact, believers are to pray at all times. Jesus prayed, Peter prayed, John prayed, Paul prayed, told people to pray for them, They also told believers to pray.

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren – Act 1:14 KJV

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. – Act 2:42 KJV

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. – Act 6:4 KJV

Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. – Act 12:5 KJV

Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; – Rom 12:12 KJV

Romans 15:30 (paraphrase)  Paul asked the church to strive together with him in their prayers to God for him.

 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; – Eph 6:18 KJV

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. – Phip 4:6 KJV

      Prayer is compulsory and a must for the believer. We pray at all times, We pray for our Pastors, we pray for directions, we pray for boldness, We pray! We pray!! We pray!!!

Glory to Jesus

          But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost – Jude 20 KJV
