Remember the story in 2 Kings where the Prophet Elisha’s servant woke up to find their city surrounded by a great army.
“When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. – 2 Kings 6:14
If that was you, it is just very okay to be afraid. But the Prophet knew better. His response which I believe forms the scriptural basis for this song;
“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. – 2 Kings 6:15-17
When you know that you have the ever-abiding presence of God, you fight from a position of rest. You may be surrounded by the worst circumstance that man could ever imagine, like waking up to an army of horsemen and fighters, but when you know that “you are more than a conqueror through Him that loved you”, you are not moved.
It may look like I’m surrounded, but I’m surrounded by You.
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. – 1 John 4;4
What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:31
