Trusting God In The Waiting

Waiting isn’t easy, it is hardest when you believe that what you want is within your reach but it never seems to make it into your hands.

The most important lesson I have taken away from waiting is keeping my hope alive and constantly finding my feet in trusting a Good God; I will attempt to share my journey so far and the importance of having a growth mindset and a teachable heart.

First, don’t be afraid to tell God how you feel.

I learned this from David and studying the book of Psalms. David poured his heart out to God saying exactly all the things he was feeling, ending every time with his declaration of unwavering trust in God.

He never attempted, at any point, to hide the state of his heart from God, and there is really no point in hiding because God sees it all; your doubts, your frustration and the feeling that your life is falling apart.

‘’Lord, you know everything there is to know about me. You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind.’’Psalms‬ ‭139:1-2‬ ‭TPT‬‬

“Where could I go from your Spirit? Where could I run and hide from your face? If I go up to heaven, you’re there! If I go down to the realm of the dead, you’re there too! If I fly with wings into the shining dawn, you’re there! If I fly into the radiant sunset, you’re there waiting! Wherever I go, your hand will guide me; your strength will empower me. It’s impossible to disappear from you or to ask the darkness to hide me, for your presence is everywhere, bringing light into my night.”Psalms‬ ‭139:7-11‬ ‭TPT‬

So be bold and loud with the Lord, the Lord really sees you. Rest in the goodness of God; that is, trust that God is always working/ whipping up something glorious in your life.

Secondly, start seeing difficulties as lessons instead of obstacles.

It is important we start seeing difficulties as lessons instead of obstacles on our journey and make an attempt to see a bigger picture of our lives through God’s eyes and not get sidetracked by our daily, seemingly overwhelming, struggles.

I know you are thinking ‘Ore sounds like Yoda or a fortune cookie’ but practising these things have kept me grounded. It doesn’t mean I haven’t found myself in situations that are unfair but I always carry in my heart the truth that I serve a Good God who is always watching over me.

“You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. With your hand of love upon my life, you impart a blessing to me.” – ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭139:5‬ ‭TPT‬‬

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you [and approved of you as My chosen instrument], And before you were born I consecrated you [to Myself as My own]; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” – ‭‭JEREMIAH‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Learn to Trust the Lord above your plans.

We all fall into the same trap when we make plans; we put all our faith into those plans, they become the roadmap for our lives, stealing shine away from God who should provide guidance for our lives.

Having plans is important, but never let your plans take precedence over God’s will for your life.

This verse in proverbs brings this home for me showing the meeting point between God’s will and my plans.

“Go ahead and make all the plans you want, but it’s the Lord who will ultimately direct your steps. We are all in love with our own opinions, convinced they’re correct. But the Lord is in the midst of us, testing and probing our every motive. Before you do anything, put your trust totally in God and not in yourself. Then every plan you make will succeed. The Lord works everything together to accomplish his purpose. Even the wicked are included in his plans— he sets them aside for the day of disaster.” – Proverbs‬ ‭16:1-4‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Pray, worship and read your bible: the three pillars of Christian living

The combination of these three will keep your heart centred. Centred on God, on His will. They will keep your heart from falling into despair.

“And in a similar way, the Holy Spirit takes hold of us in our human frailty to empower us in our weakness. For example, at times we don’t even know how to pray, or know the best things to ask for. But the Holy Spirit rises up within us to super-intercede on our behalf, pleading to God with emotional sighs too deep for words. God, the searcher of the heart, knows fully our longings, yet he also understands the desires of the Spirit, because the Holy Spirit passionately pleads before God for us, his holy ones, in perfect harmony with God’s plan and our destiny. So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfil his designed purpose.”Romans‬ ‭8:26-28‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Lastly, be honest and vulnerable with trusted people in your life.

Also, be honest and vulnerable with trusted people in your life, don’t shy away from sharing with them on dark days, allow them to help you find your way to the light, allow them to support you while you wait and even beyond the waiting.

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. 10For if one falls down, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to help him up! – Ecclesiastes 4:10
