Couple taking selfieI know I’ve been MIA (covers face) but looking on the bright side of everything. Perhaps God wanted this post to come just in time for Valentine’s. Yes, there’s valentines day (all of you that were counting on Nigeria…lol). Happy New Year by the way. Hope Y’all are still faithful with your new year resolutions.

Recently, I heard a Bruno Mars song on the radio titled ‘When I Was Your Man’. I’m not one to advocate for non-gospel songs but this one came across as a very interesting one and I just realized that one day, some people may be in his shoes(or whoever he was embodying when he recorded that piece). A few lines from the song are as follows:

My pride, my ego, my needs, and my selfish ways
Caused a good strong woman like you to walk out of my life
Now I never, never get to clean up the mess I made, ohh…
And it haunts me every time I close my eyes’

I’m not an expert on love and relationship issues (unlike Leke Alder my mentor) but I have a pretty good idea of ‘basic human love needs’. One thing Tolu made me realize is that people use so much effort to get a particular guy/girl but don’t put much effort in keeping this person. So, here are some tips on how to value your partner. And no, it’s not just for the guys.

Pray for him/her: There is something about praying for someone you love. You know how your mum’s prayers always seem to work some sort of magic? It happens like that when you pray for your partner.

Encourage him/her: When a word of encouragement comes from a friend or a Pastor, it makes you feel like you’re on top of the world. How much more from your partner? Even if both of you are not sure of the issue, still offer that word of encouragement. Recently, my ‘partner’ did something which seemed pretty ordinary to me given the kind of person he is so I didn’t comment or commend him and it really hurt him. I didn’t know until he told me. And there I was thinking it was just something ordinary that he did. That word of encouragement can turn an ordinary day into an extraordinary day.

Buy him/her ‘Flowers’: Not literal flowers o (not like that’s a bad idea). I used flowers because they are inexpensive but lovely. Meaning you don’t have to break your bank account to make your partner happy (except if he/she is a very materialistic person, then I really don’t know how to handle that).

I just hope one day, you don’t wake up to realize that someone else has married your husband/wife.

I hope y’all have learnt something or two :). Please let me know in the comments’ section.

In a totally unrelated note, I want to use this medium to be someone’s source of encouragement. Lately, I’ve been feeling very down and depressed and nobody knows cos I’m very good at masking my emotions plus I don’t know who I’m inspiring with my smile. So, if anyone has been in my shoes, this is just a note of encouragement. Hang on a little longer; pray a little longer. It’s usually dark before the light comes. And to steal a line from one of Flo’s songs, the Angels are working over-time on your matter.

If you have any tips on how to value your partner (present and future), the comment section is available for you.
